Kent MacDonald is a seasoned winemaker with a diverse background spanning over two decades, culminating in his current role as Head Winemaker at Burrowing Owl Vineyards Ltd. Since joining BOV in 2016 as Winemaker, Kent has played a pivotal role in shaping the winemaking processes and elevating and expanding its portfolio.

Prior to his tenure at Burrowing Owl, Kent honed his craft as Cellar Supervisor and Assistant Winemaker at Henry of Pelham Estate in Niagara, where he oversaw cellar operations with meticulous attention to detail and a focus on optimizing efficiency. His experience also extends internationally, having served as an Assistant Winemaker at Vina Santa Carolina S.A. at their Totihue facility.

Kent’s journey in the wine industry is underpinned by his academic background which includes two Bachelor of Science degrees: a B.Sc. from SFU in Biology/Environmental Toxicology and a B.Sc. in Forest Resource Management from the U of A where he earned several prestigious awards and scholarships. Kent also holds a Certificate in Grape and Wine Technology – Oenology and Viticulture from Brock University. His educational foundation, combined with hands-on experience across various facets of winemaking, has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the science and artistry behind crafting exceptional wines.

Beyond his winemaking endeavors, Kent has demonstrated versatility and leadership in diverse rols, from working in key positions in the Alberta forest industry for over a decade, to owning and managing a restaurant and bar oversees. This multifaceted background underscores his adaptability, strategic acumen, and commitment to excellence in every endeavor.
