Synopsis

Irrigation is a necessity for practically all crops grown in the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys of British Columbia, where the bulk of the wine grape production is located. Due to a growing population base, a very limited supply of water and possible future impacts of climate change, water conservation is becoming a topic of prime importance. Judicious use of mild water deficits can also have a positive effect on the sensory qualities of the grapes and wine. Irrigation Management Based on Soil Moisture and Grapevine Phenology will address these issues and make recommendations to the grower population.
