Canadian Grapevine Certification Network's "Tissue Culture and Crown Gall" Webinar

For our third webinar of 2022, we will divide our focus between Tissue Culture and Crown Gall, with expert input from across Canada and the United States. To present on tissue culture, we welcome Dr. Robin Browne of Acadia University, and Rob Haynes of CGCN-RCCV nursery partner Upper Canada Growers. For the discussion on Crown Gall, we will see presentations from Dr. Tanja Voegel of University of British Columbia-Okanagan, and Plant Health Consultant Dr. Judit Monis.

Cold Hardiness and Climate Change Webinar

When

Cold weather remains an ongoing challenge for the grape and wine industry across Canada. While climate change is predicted to expand areas suitable for wine grape production in the country, more frequent extreme cold weather events through the year, including cold episodes lethal to grapevines are also predicted. Activities 5, 6 & 7 in the Canadian Agricultural Partnership will explore methods to  reduce crop loss risks by increasing vineyard tolerance to extreme cold events through enhanced hardiness, crop protection technologies and improved cultivar selection.

Managing Leafhoppers in Organic Vineyards

Join researchers and industry peers for a brief introduction to virginia creeper leafhopper and grape leafhopper, lifecycle, monitoring, thresholds, biocontrols, and products available.  Dr. Tom Lowery AAFC Research Scientist, will share information on the outbreak in 2021 and what to expect for 2022.  Hans Buchler will follow Dr. Lowery’s presentation on some suppression methods that can work, with emphasis on use of horticultural oils and tools best suited for this approach.
